The Jets are looking to get stronger, as they add another weapon to the offense. The New York Jets signed former Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams, the team announced March 19th.

Williams inked a one-year deal worth up to $15 million, reports NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. This was after the Chargers decided to move on from both Mike Williams and Keenan Allen.

A former top-10 pick in 2017, Williams has spent his entire NFL career with the Chargers,up to being released just this month. A torn ACL limited the 29-year-old to three appearances and 19 receptions in 2023. Injuries have hampered him a lot in his career, which makes sense as he is a bigger receiver. Mike Williams has been able to play in a good amount of games, but sadly has only played one full season since entering the league.

Williams has been a solid deep threat for most of his career and led the NFL with 20.4 yards per reception in 2019. He also has two 1,000-yard seasons under his belt, and has caught 309 career passes for 4,806 yards and 31 touchdowns in 88 appearances across seven seasons.

After a relatively slow start to 2024 free agency, the Jets have been very active in addressing their main needs, especially offensively, this offseason. The jets have added key pieces  to its offensive line, and adding another weapon was a top priority. Besides Garrett Wilson, no other Jets wide receiver recorded more than 320 receiving yards in 2023.

With Aaron Rodgers returning from an Achilles injury, the Jets head into the new season surrounded by high hopes and very nervous fans again I’m sure. The team went 7-10 last year after Rodgers sustained a season-ending achilles injury four plays in his debut with the AFC East team. The Jets haven’t made the playoffs since the 2010 season, which is now the longest drought in the NFL.

The Jets will for sure continue to make moves into the offseason, as they look to take advantage of an AFC East that is a bit weaker than last year. If Aaron Rodgers stays healthy, there is no doubt the Jets can be AFC East division champs.
