The Detroit Lions are signing running back Isiah Pacheco, a source told Tom Pelissero. The 27-year-old Pacheco joins the Lions after four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Detroit was in the market for a complementary tailback to star Jahmyr Gibbs after trading David Montgomery to the Houston Texans. It got to the point in Detroit that the team just had to give Gibbs more touches, but also respected Montgomery and wanted him to be able to go somewhere he could get a lot more of the touches.
Isiah Pacheco is known for his running style of running hard and “through the ground.” He rushed for a career-high 935 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023. Injuries would go on to then limit his playing time the following two seasons. He averaged 3.9 yards per carry in 2025, rushing for 462 yards and one score.
The Chiefs agreed to sign Super Bowl LX MVP Kenneth Walker III to a three-year, $45-million contract ealrier this offseason, which was the main signaling they were ready to move on from Pacheco.
