The Cowboys did it again. Another great regular season that results in a flameout in the playoffs. The Packers demolished the Cowboys 48-32. The score is deceiving of truly how bad this game got.
Dak Prescott had two pick 6s early that led to a deficit of 27-0 before it was 27-7 at half. The game got as bad as 41-16 before there was a late push by the Cowboys to make it closer. This was the most points given up by the Cowboys during a playoff game in their team history.
Although Mike McCarthy has had really good seasons, it’s the cowboys we are talking about. Losing early on in the playoffs is not what they want. With this latest flameout, will we see Bill Belechick before the new Cowboys sideline boss?
Almost every year, there is one playoff team that has a shocking firing. This year, my feeling is it may just be the Cowboys. With a lot of good coaches out there in the free agent pool, this could be a good time for Jerry Jones to pounce. I am by no means calling for McCarthy’s job, it’s just the Cowboys always seemed to have higher expectations.
Bill Belichick may just bring in the juice the Cowboys need. They seemingly have been really good, but missing a certain toughness they have needed in most games. Belichick could bring this, along with so many smarts for in-game situations.
The final decision will come down to roster control. It is hard to see Bill Belichick joining a team where he was not at least a co-decision maker on. The Cowboys do have enough talent on the roster to make the Super Bowl. Belichick would come in and would have instant credibility amongst the roster.
He could and most likely would help solve the execution and mental mistakes this Cowboys team has been plagued with over the recent seasons. If Belichick not only wants to catch Shula, but possibly add another Super Bowl onto his résumé, there aren’t many better options in the league.
It will take a few key pieces falling a certain way for this to happen. So far, the Cowboys loss to the Packers is a potential step in this direction.
