No. 6 Kentucky traveled to Georgia last night to take on the 13-2 Georgia Bulldogs. From the jump it appeared the intensity and energy Georgia was bringing would not be matched.

It appeared Kentucky took the game for granted and before they knew it, Georgia went into the half with a 13 point lead. The Bulldogs scored 47 points and looked as if they could not miss.

From there it was basically over. Every time Kentucky would get the game to single digits, Georgia would pull away laughing at them. Georgia would hold on to win 82-69.

Both teams are now 1-1 in conference play in one of the toughest conference’s this season, the SEC.

Georgia got under Kentucky’s Skin

Kentucky transfer Otega Oweh was seen late in the game mouthing “This is Y’all Super Bowl” while he was shooting free throws. Funny how that Kentucky blue gives players a different level of confidence. Oweh played for Oklahoma just a season ago, a team who finished 8-10 in conference play and missed the NCAA Tournament completely.

Georgia’s only two losses thus far this season are too very good ranked teams in Marquette and Ole Miss. With wins now over Kentucky, St. John’s, Grand Canyon, Georgia Tech, and Notre Dame one thing is for sure.

The Georgia Bulldogs are a team nobody and I mean nobody wants to face come March. Their next five games will be a gauntlet, as will the rest of SEC play. However, if last night was any indication of what this team is made of, they shouldn’t be too worried.

Georgia’s next five games:

  • No. 17 Oklahoma
  • @ No. 1 Tennessee
  • No. 2 Auburn
  • @ Arkansas
  • @ No. 8 Florida

*all rankings are current as of January 8th. Subject to change.

I believe Georgia deserves and will get a number next to their name come Monday when the new AP Poll comes out. Yet, Saturday’s game against Oklahoma will be huge.

Kentucky will look to bounce back from this loss against Mississippi State on Saturday night.
