Ed Cooley coached his first game at historic Georgetown on Tuesday night to open the 2023-24 season. Cooley said over the summer he had long wanted the opportunity to coach Georgetown, and finally got it.
The Hoyas took on Le Moyne to open the season and attempt to find a rhythm. Find a rhythm they did, winning by a final score of 94-57.
The Hoyas had five players contribute more than double digit scoring. Two of which finished with a double double. Supreme Cook and Dontrez Styles. Cook finished with 19 and 13, while Styles dropped 15 and 10.
The three other players with double digits include, Rowan Brumbaugh with 13 points, Drew Fielder with 11, and Jay Heath with 15.
Ed Cooley Starts off 1-0
As historic as the Georgetown basketball program is, the last few seasons have been seasons fans wish to forget.
After hiring Ed Cooley, a winning coach both in the regular season, in the tournament, as well as in the mighty Big East conference. Being familiar with the tradition of Big East basketball and the Georgetown Hoyas, it feels good to see 1-0 by their name.
The turn around the program truly deserves is probably one or two seasons away. With Ed Cooley now at the helm, that turn around has already begun.
College Basketball is back, and this is what it is all about.
