This season has the more excitement around Michigan Basketball than I have seen in this decade. Newly hired coach Dusty May is looking to bring the Wolverines back to elite status and isn’t wasting time in doing so.
Michigan basketball has three highly touted freshman looking to leave a mark on the program. Justin Pippen, Phat Phat Brooks, and L.J. Cason all had great success in high school.
However, the year is 2024 and the college sports landscape no longer cares about a freshman class, no matter how good they could be.
In this day and age it is all about the transfers and Dusty May knows that all too well. May and Michigan put together the number 1 ranked transfer class over the summer.
A transfer class that includes tons of size with three 7 footers and two guards around the 6’5 mark.
Vlad Goldin followed head coach Dusty May from Florida Atlantic to Michigan. The 7’1 Junior averaged 15.7 points per game and 7 rebounds last season for FAU and was apart of that magical final four run two seasons ago.
Danny Wolf, transfer from Yale. The 7’0 footer led the Bulldogs of Yale to a 23-10 record and to the second round of the tourney last season averaging 14 points and 10 boards.
These two big men will be joined by 6’10 transfer from Alabama Sam Walters just to add some more size to the equation.
Rubin Jones from Houston, TX, transfer from North Texas will bring a ton of experience to the back court. Jones averaged 12 points to go along with 4 boards and 4 assist last season.
Roddy Gayle Jr and Tre Donaldson round out this number one ranked transfer class. Gayle Jr averaged 14 points with 5 boards and 3 assist last season at Big 10 rival Ohio State.
Success in college basketball is hard to come by and even harder to sustain. However Dusty May in his first big name job looks and feels like he knows what he is doing.
