Huge news. North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye is bypassing the remainder of his college eligibility to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft, he announced Monday.
“Tar Heel Nation, the best fans out there,” Maye said in a statement. “You have made my time at UNC truly special, thank y’all. I have decided to (forgo) the bowl game and declare for the NFL draft. Forever and always, go Heels!”
The sophomore is projected to be one of the top passers in the upcoming draft alongside Caleb Williams, though the latter has not decided whether or not he will go pro. All signs point to him going pro however, and these two could be the top two quarterbacks taken.
Maye elevated his status as a potential top pick by throwing for 7,929 yards and 62 touchdowns to 16 interceptions over the past two seasons. He’s also rushed for over 1,000 yards and added 16 scores on the ground during that span.
