Baylor Bears

With less than 7 weeks from us having a bracket in our hands, let us begin to countdown and break down this years March and the madness behind it.

Every day we will look at a different angle of the beauty that is the bracket. From top seeds to bubble teams and every team in between. Which styles of play can be a problem for teams and which teams are on my radar for wearing the glass slipper.

With still 7 weeks to go standings can and will change.

March Madness, Baylor Bears

  • Baylor Bears

Currently sitting on the 9 seed line in the West bracket, the Baylor Bears are 13-6 overall with a 5-3 record in Big 12 conference play. The shaky part of their resume is the lack of quality wins, sitting at 2-5 against quad 1. Yet, against quad 2 they are 3-0 and combined 7-1 against quad 3 and 4.

This team has big name transfers in Jeremy Roach and Norchad Omier with a lot of experience around them. With 5 players averaging double digits, it feels like only a matter of time before this group gels.

Ranked 9th in the nation in offensive efficiency averaging 1.23 points per game, this offense is dangerous. The defense is top 50 in efficiency ratings sitting at 41st in the nation only giving up 0.95 points per possession. The Baylor Bears are ranked 28th in the NET rankings.

They take smart shots and are in the top 15 in offensive rebounding. In the top 25 in turning over their opponents when on defense and top 50 in protecting the ball. It is baffling at some of the losses on this teams resume. Again only 2-5 against quad 1 teams on the season. Only good news is most of those losses are on the road, bad news is that the tournament will not be played in Waco, TX.

Sets at a Glance

This Baylor Bears team is FULL of length and size that they use to their advantage on both sides of the ball. One of the few basketball teams you will see with two players on the block at once. They play a cute high low at times with both bigs able to pass and score.

The length on defense comes with agility allowing Baylor to switch 1-5 and keep the pressure on the offense.

Metrics will have me believe that this team can be dangerous, however it will take more winning results to talk me into backing the Baylor Bears come March.

Final Thought and Projection

Currently sitting on the 9 seed line, I could see the Baylor Bears anywhere from 7 to 10 come March. This could be one of those teams that sneaks up on people come tournament time.

A ton of experience with transfers that have been deep into the tournament with other teams. They are looking to build that chemistry, and I think they will.

Could be a scary team, I am looking at this team to be a non traditional Cinderella team. You can never count a Bryce Drew coached team out. Nobody will see this team coming, yet I predict they will be in the sweet 16.

From there anybody can make a run to the final four, however, I would count on this team losing before that third weekend.
