I may be a little biased, but I am VERY happy with hearing this news from the Indianapolis Colts.

The Colts and Pro Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner agreed to a contract extension, the team announced Monday.

Buckner’s deal is two years and will see him making around $46 million, sources told Adam Schefter.

Buckner was set to become a free agent after this upcoming season, but now the deal keeps him in Indy at least until after 2026.

Buckner has been one of the best and most consistent Colts since he was acquired from the 49ers in 2020. He’s recorded at least seven sacks in each of his four seasons in Indianapolis. Between him and Grover Stewart, the Colts have had a great interior presence on defense

Buckner is coming off a third Pro Bowl season. This season he recorded eight sacks, two forced fumbles, 11 tackles for a loss, and 21 quarterback hits. He also scored a defensive touchdown off a fumble recovery.

The Colts are looking to take a step forward  next season, especially with Anthony Richardson coming back from injury. Keeping DeForest Buckner not only helps that out, he is a good locker room leader/presence to keep around the team.

The Colts signed back most of their guys this offseason, so it will be interesting to see what the Colts do in the draft.

Will the Colts draft corner or defensive line depth on defense? Will they draft more offensive depth?  Maybe even trade up and draft Marvin Harrison Jr.?

Either way, this should be an interesting draft for the Colts.
