The Los Angeles Chargers are signing running back Najee Harris to a one-year deal worth up to $9.5 million, sources told Adam Schefter.
Harris spent the first four years of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers after entering the league in 2021 as a first-round pick. Najee suited up in all 17 games for Pittsburgh last season, having up 1,043 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 263 rush attempts.
The 27-year-old Harris has rushed for 1,000+ yards every season, but has never averaged more than 4.1 yards a carry. This is a reason to why the Steelers split time with him and Jaylen Warren so much at the end of his tenure, with it seemingly more and more likely Harris would be allowed to test the market.
Los Angeles recently released Gus Edwards, and their 2024 leading rusher, J.K. Dobbins is an unrestricted free agent. The Chargers ranked 27th in rushing success rate last season, according to Ben Baldwin’s database.
The Steelers reportedly placed a second-round restricted tender on Jaylen Warren, keeping him under contract at $5.3 million for the 2025 season. Other running backs on Pittsburgh’s roster include Cordarrelle Patterson and Aaron Shampklin.
Harris has 4,312 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns in 68 career games.
