This is a huge loss for the Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia tight end Brock Bowers was set to undergo tightrope surgery to repair a high ankle sprain on Monday, the school announced. Bowers is expected to miss four-to-six weeks.
The All-American star sustained the injury in the second quarter of Georgia’s 37-20 win over Vanderbilt on Saturday. He was slow to get up after taking a handoff from quarterback Carson Beck and sported a noticeable limp before walking off the field. He didn’t return for the remainder of the game.
Bowers is the leading receiver for Beck and the Bulldogs. He has 41 receptions for 567 yards and four touchdowns. Sophomore Oscar Delp is expected to see an increase in snaps with Bowers sidelined. Freshman Lawson Luckie could also see increased playing time in the weeks to come.
Bowers, a projected first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, saw his production increase over the past few weeks prior to the injury. He recorded at least 100 receiving yards and a touchdown in each of his past three games entering last weekend.
Georgia’s schedule gets tougher following its bye week, with upcoming matchups against Florida, Missouri, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. Without Brock Bowers in the lineup, these games will be that much more difficult.
