The Houston Texans have signed veteran offensive tackle Braden Smith to a two-year, $20-million contract, a source told Ian Rapoport.
Braden Smith, whom the Indianapolis Colts selected in the second round of the 2018 draft, had spent his entire eight-year career with the team up until signing this deal.
The 29-year-old has started 105 games since entering the NFL, including at least 10 games in every season the last 8 years. He suited up at right tackle for the Colts in 13 games last season, only allowing one sack and six quarterback hits in 471 pass-blocking snaps.
Smith has inside-outside versatility, as he’s also played snaps at guard during his career. The move helps boost a Texans offensive line that’s surrendered the eighth-most sacks over the last two seasons.
The Houston Texans have really struggled to protect CJ Stroud along with having a good running game the last two years. They have spent these last couple of seasons trying to revamp their offensive line, so maybe Braden Smith could be the stabilizing force that the Texans need a tackle. With how good that defense truly is, a competent offense could be all the Texans  need to get over the hump and make a Super Bowl appearance .
