UNC Basketball
The North Carolina Tar Heels are coming off of a 13 point loss to the Louisville Cardinals. Their sixth loss of the season and sixth loss to quad 1 opponents. The sad truth is that Roy Williams is long gone and this basketball program shows it.
Hubert Davis in his fourth year as the head coach of North Carolina has completely shifted gears from what UNC is known for. Big names and big men. Since Roy Williams recruiting class has departed, the lack of talent on this Tar Heel team is evident.
Davis has found success as the head coach, and this season is still far from over. Yet, the 8-6 record attached to North Carolina just does not look right. Davis has reached 20 wins in his first three seasons, reaching the National Championship in his first season before losing to Kansas.
In his second season, which was classified as a disappointment, an 11-9 conference record and complete missing the tournament.
His third season, UNC won the ACC with a 17-3 conference record before being bounced in the sweet 16.
This Season’s UNC Basketball Team
This season has been a wild one, games where they were down 30 before making monster comebacks and losing by 3 against Kansas early. Other games like the one last night against Louisville where they were down 1 with a little under 4 minutes left.
Louisville would end the game on a 23-11 run and winning the game by 13. The offense goes frigid at times and the defense is inconsistent to say the least.
Hubert Davis is a good coach, his recruiting is questionable and his roster this season lacks the talent, I believe, to make any kind of push towards the top of the ACC.
I expect another season where UNC will completely miss the tournament, and if that happens, that head coaching seat Davis fills now will be on fire. Sadly, so might he be, fired.
